| Our 1928 Spillman Engineering Co. Carousel occupies the Cook Carousel Pavilion extending over the Grand River from the main gallery of the Museum. Available year-round to museum visitors, offering rides for $1 as it revolves to the music of a Wurlitzer band organ. Highlights include 44 hand-carved, elaborately jeweled wooden horses, two chariots and six menagerie animals (giraffe, lion, deer, goat, tiger and camel) and the original ticket booth. The interior and dome of the carousel are decorated in Art Nouveau painted panels, carved frieze and accented with brass poles and 1,200 lights. | |
