Volunteer Opportunities

Discovery Cart Volunteer – demonstrates a variety of museum artifacts, encouraging customers to investigate.  Artifact kits include hats, musical instruments, shipwrecks

  • Programs are given throughout the museum
  • Ability to learn details of the artifacts
  • Ability to move demonstration cart throughout the museum
  • Speaking & presentation skills
  • Training & evaluation required
  • Commit to one three hour shift per week
  • Monday through Friday 9:30AM to 12:30PM
  • 12 or older

 

Docent Volunteer – offer school group programming designed to meet education guidelines and emphasis museum exhibits

  • Programs are given in museum exhibits
  • Ability to learn program scripts
  • Need speaking & presentation skills
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Training & evaluation required
  • Available weekdays during school hours, must be available fall and spring especially November & May
  • Commit to fifty hours per year
  • 18 or older 

 

Exhibit Interpreter Volunteer – enhance customer experience by providing insight about an exhibit, make the museum come alive

  • Stationed in museum’s permanent exhibits
  • Ability to learn details of the exhibit
  • Need speaking & presentation skills
  • Training & evaluation required
  • Commit to one three hour shift per week
  • 18 or older
Openings:
  • Monday 9:30AM to 12:30PM & 12:30PM to 3:30PM
  • Tuesday 12:30PM to 3:30PM
  • Wednesday 9:30AM to 12:30PM
  • Thursday 12:30PM to 3:30PM

 

Event Specialist Volunteer – provide customer service for a variety of events & programs, including assisting, directing, offering fun activities for customers

  • Stationed throughout the museum
  • Ability to learn a variety of duties including greeting, directing, assisting with crafts, participating in temporary exhibits
  • Need speaking and presentation skills
  • Training required
  • Available weekdays, weekends and evenings
  • Commit to 30 hours minimum per year
  • 12 or older
