 Description:
The Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association's James C. Veen Observatory is an astronomical education and research center housing several fully equipped telescopes and support facilities. The Grand Rapids Public Museum collaborates with the GRAAA in presenting Veen Observatory Public Nights, and provides ongoing financial and administrative support.

Events:

Astronomy as a Hobby Class Series:
The Public Museum and GRAAA are offering three free classes, Astronomy as a Hobby, each followed by a telescope tune-up clinic. 
Each class is held at Schuler Books and Museum, 2660 28th St. 

February 16, 2013 - 1:00pm - Sorting it Out with Jim Foerch - Recommendations for telescopes, guide books, star charts, and online resources, along with stargazing tips.

March 16, 2013 - 1:00pm - Looking Up and Ahead with Greg Comegys - Advice for upgrading equipment and enhancing enjoyment from astronomy as a hobby.

Each session is followed from 2:15-3pm by a Telescope Tune-Up Clinic. Participants can bring in their instruments for assessment, alignment and minor repairs.  The Tune-Up Clinic can be attended separately.

Veen Observatory Public Nights are presented when the sky is clear on the second and last Saturday evenings of each month between April and October as listed below. Starting times vary according to sunset times. If conditions are questionable, call 616-897-7065 after 6:30 on scheduled night, or visit the GRAAA website.
