Local Lore at the Public Museum NEW
During this trip to the Museum scouts will learn about legends and landmarks in Grand Rapids and the surrounding area, see how Grand Rapids has changed in the last fifty years, and create a newspaper flyer featuring stories from the past. Covered in part or completely will be #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #7, and a list of possibilities for #8.
Who: Junior Scouts
Cost: $7.00 per girl, leaders are free, additionally one adult for every five scouts is free. All other adults pay $8.00.

Girl Scout Overnight at the Public Museum NEW

What happens at the Museum at night? Do the exhibits come alive? Bring a flashlight, sleeping bag and find out. Participate in fun games, hands-on activities, and view a Planetarium show. Bring along a t-shirt to print to commemorate surviving an overnight at the Museum.
Who: Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scouts
Cost: $27.00 per scout, 1 paid chaperone (over 21 years old) per 5 scouts required.
When: Check in Friday February 15, 2008 6:00pm to 6:30pm. Check out Saturday February 16 no later than 8:00am.

Build a Better Future at the Public Museum NEW
Members of the American Society of Civil Engineers Grand Rapids Chapter will demonstrate and provide hands on opportunities in the areas of robotics, electronics, bridge construction, tunnel-making and water treatment. Covered in part or completely will be Skill Builder #2, Technology #1, #2, and #4, and Career Exploration #1, #2, and #4.
Who: Cadette, and Senior Scouts
Cost: $7.00 per girl, leaders are free, additionally one adult for every five scouts is free. All other adults pay $8.00.
When: Saturday February 23, 2008 from 11:00 to 2:00 (staggered times will be arranged – plan on two hours to visit all engineering stations)

Sky Search at the Public Museum Chaffee Planetarium
The sky is filled with interesting planets, stars, moons, satellites, and more. See how things work “out there” during a visit to the Chaffee Planetarium. Discover how near or far the other planets are to Earth, learn to use a telescope, and hear about careers in astronomy.

Space Exploration at the Public Museum Chaffee Planetarium
Scouts will have an out-of-this-world experience while learning about the wonders of the sky overhead. They will explore planets, constellations, and more in the unique educational environment of the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium, and participate in a series of fun, astronomy-related activities. Real astronomers will be on hand to answer questions and to demonstrate how telescopes work.
Who: Cadette, and Senior Scouts
Cost: $12.00 per scout, leaders are free, additionally one adult for every five scouts is free. Any additional adults pay $8 per entrance.
When: Saturday February 9 from 9:30 to 12 and Saturday March 8 from 9:30 to 12 (This program is in two parts due to the amount and level of material that will be presented.)

Textile Arts at the Public Museum NEW
Presented in conjunction with the West Michigan Quilters Guild on National Quilting Day, scouts will learn about different types of fabric, the art of quilting, and how new technology assists in the design of quilts. Visit with quilters and find out how they learned their craft, how much training do they have, what are the tools of their craft, and where they sell their crafts. Sew a simple four patch design. Covered in part or completely will be Skill Builders #1 and #5, Technology #2, Career Exploration #2 and #4.

Manners Then & Now at the Public Museum
Enjoy a special guided tour of the “Streets of Old Grand Rapids” and discover what life was like in the 1890s. Introduce yourself to a shopkeeper or two. Participate in a 1890s tea party, discuss proper etiquette from then and now, see clothes from 100 years ago and take a ride on a carousel. Covered will be #!, #2, #4, #6, and #7.

Space Explorers at the Public Museum
In celebration of Earth Day look to the skies to better understand the universe that Earth is part of. Scouts will view a show in the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium and participate in hands-on activities.

Celebrating People
Explore new worlds as you look at different languages, learn how weddings and birthdays are celebrated around the world, and meet people from different countries. Scouts will write their own code of conduct and make a “human family” collage. Covered in part or completely will be #1, #2, #3, #4, #6, #7, and #10.
